In 923 Charles III was deposed after being defeated at the Battle of Soissons. To protect her son's safety Eadgifu took Louis to England where he was raised by her half brother Æthelstan. He stayed in England until 936 when he was recalled to France to be crowned King. Eadgifu accompanied Louis.2
