Obituary (Aberdeen Daily World, published 11 September 1941): David Oakman Durgan, 74, former Aberdeen policeman and bridge tender who was known to hundreds as "Dad" died last night at a Port Angeles hospital. He was taken ill Sunday night. Durgan was born in New Brunswick and came to Aberdeen 22 years ago after living at Chehalis about 10 years. He moved to Port Angeles Sunday with his daughter, Mrs Percy LaBreck. The family home here was at 1406 West Market street. Durgan was a policeman here for about 10 Years, serving as a traffic officer and desk sergeant. In later years he was tender of the Heron span was closed several months ago.??He was a widower, his wife having died 29 years ago, leaving him with five small children. Durgan received the nicknams "Dad" from the way in which he fathered his motherless family.55,255] Besides Mrs. Labreck, three other daughters survive, Mrs. Fern Carlson, of Eugene, Mrs. Walter Elgin, of Seattle, and Mrs. Nels Conradl, Of Ryderwood. Durgan also leaves eight grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 1 o'clock Saturday afternoon from the Elerding chapel with Rev. T. T. Ove and Rev. Paul Shelley officiating. Concluding services will be at the family plot at Fern Hill cemetery.10,11
