| Biographical Note | Son of James & Mary (Quincy) Kettelle. Grad. at Waterville College in 1828; resided in Saco and in Calais, Me.,afterwards, at Boston. He was attorney at law in Boston. He m. 2nd Sarah Ann Heald (widow of Samuel L. Wilkins) in 1848, who diedin 1854, aged 44; and 3rd Lucy T. Drew, in 1859, by whom he had 2children. REF: NEHGR, 20-1866-379-380 'Jacob Q. Kettelle, Esq., was born in Limerick, Maine. He graduated fromWaterville now Colby, College, read law with Moses EMERY, Esq., of Saco,and afterwards with O.L. BRIDGES, Esq., of this city, and then opened anoffice in Milltown; but he did not remain long in town. Although doing afair amount of business, he became dissatisfied with 'down east,' and moved to Boston,where he practiced law until his decease in 1868. He was a man ofsterling integrity and respectable ability; and he has left behind himthe fragrance of a good name' (Annals of Calais, p. 83). |
