The 1800 Calais census reports Stephen (b. 1755-74), his wife (b.1774-84), and children: one girl born 1790-1800 [K], and four boys born1790-1800 [L, F, G & H] -- five children in ten years. The Calais census of 1810 shows Stephen (b. 1765-84), his wife (b.1765-84), and children: two boys born 1800-10 [I & J], three boys born1794-1800 [F, G & H], one boy born 1784-1794 [M], one girl born 1800-10[E], and one girl born 1794-1800 [K]. The 1820 Calais census shows Stephen (born before 1775), his wife (b.1774-94), and children: two boys born 1810-20 [B & C], three boys born1803-10 [A, I & J], three boys born 1793-1804 [F, G & H], one boy born1774-94 [L], one girl born 1803-10 [E]. Girl 'K' (b. 1794-1800) is notlisted and she either died or was married by 1820. One of the abovepersons was marked as foreign born and not naturalized, two were engagedin agriculture and two persons in commerce. The 1830 census shows that all but the three youngest of the childrenwere no longer living at home. This census shows Stephen (b. 1770-80),his wife (b. 1780-90), and children: one boy born 1815-20 [B], and twoboys born 1810-15 [A & C]. Finally, by the 1840 census of Calais, thefamily was no longer listed. As Stephen would have been about 65 in 1840,it seems more likely that he and his wife died during the previous decadethan that they moved away. SOURCES: Calais census of 1800, 1810, 1820, 1830.
