Death	He died on 5 February 1945 in Vielslam, BelgiumG. the casualty report recorded that Preston was the pilot of a Canadian Air Force Lancaster on its way to Bonn, Germany, when it collided in clouds with another Canadian Lancaster, about 5 miles south of Vielslam. This was Preston's 50th trip. On a previous flight he was shot down over water; he and his crew spent 6 hours in a dinghy before being rescued. His wife, Kay, remained in England after his death.¹ World War II Remembrance Book, John Preston Barlow.
Burial	He was buried in Hotton War Cemetery, Hotton, Luxembourg, Belgium, 50.26258;5.44710G. HOTTON WAR CEMETERY is located 58 km south east of Namur.
