Anne_of_Cleves,_by_Hans_Holbei
Anne of Cleves (1515-1557), fourth wife of King Henry VIII, painting by Hans Holbein the Younger, 1539. Holbein was sent to paint her at Düren in the summer of 1539 so that Henry could evaluate her as a possible wife. Henry liked the portrait, but was soon disappointed with the person, later divorcing her after a brief unconsummated marriage. She died during the reign of Queen Mary.
