- He died after a long illness, from cancer. Obituary: He lived in West Seattle most of his life, graduating from West Seattle High School in 1940. He retired in 1972 as a pilot on a fireboat for the Seattle Fire Department, having served for twenty-five years. For fifty-seven years, he was a member of West Side Presbyterian Church, serving as a deacon, and then an elder. Survivors include his wife Mary Phyllis (Reeder) Fletcher: a daughter, Carol and husband Jim Farnsworth, and grandchildren, Katie and Jeremy Camp of Seattle: daughter, Janice and husband David West with grandchildren, Morgan and Cody of Portland, Oregon; daughter Kelly and husband Steven Joy of Seattle; son Brad and his wife Joni (Granroth) Fletcher and grandchildren, Kara and Ashley of West Seattle; son Paul and wife, K.C. (Smith) Fletcher with grandchildren, Emily, Colby and Clara of Redmond; sister Kathryn (Fletcher) Harrington and husband Gerry Harrington of Camano Island; brother E. Don and his wife, Edna Fletcher of Camano Island; sister-in-law Jean (Reeder) and her husband Dave Rabak of West Seattle. Memorial services were held 11 March, 1989 at West Side Presbyterian Church, directed by Howden-Kennedy Funeral Home. Lawrence was cremated and his ashes were spread on Elliot Bay from the Fire Boat, 'Seattle.' Contributions suggested to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center,1124 Columbia St., Seattle.
