- in 1540 several members of the Plantagenet household in Calais were arrested on suspicion of treason. Arthur was one of those arrested. The actual conspirators were executed, and Arthur was sent to the Tower of London. He was imprisoned there for two years before the king decided to release him. Strangely, when he received news of his pending release he suffered a heart attack and died two days later.
