- Henry F. Garcia of Laredo, Texas sent John Jay Ruhlman IV, a delightful E-mail on July 10, 1996 that traced his uncle Howard “Nun”Ruhlman’s wife Lottie Dovalina all the way back to the Don Jose Vasquez Borrego Capt. the original Land Grant Holder from Spain. He originally held 329,000 acres in the Webb and Zapata Counties (general area of Laredo, Texas). Don Jose Vasquez Borrego placed his settlement in charge of hisnephew, Batolome Borrego. In 1753 Corralitos and Hacienda de San Ignaciowere given to him. Corralitos was assigned to Jose Fernando Vidaurri, grandson of Capt. Borrego (and the great-grandfather of Lottie Donvalina Ruhlman). The older son of Don Jose Vasquez Borrego, Juan Jose Vasquez Borrego, negotiated the land grant of this vast settlement, approximately 329,000 acres of land in what is now Webb and Zapata Counties. It seems that Capt. Borrego was ever the adventurer. His wife was Dona Josefa Imperial and they had four children: Juan Jose, Macario, Fernando and Manuela (who married Juan Antonio Vidaurri). One of their sons, Jose Fernando Vidaurri Borrego married Alejandra Sanchez, daughter of Capt. Tomas Sanchez who founded Laredo, Texas.' --- Henry F. Garcia, Laredo, Texas July, 1990
