- Carl Theodore 'Coolie' Nilson's cattle brand was given to him by hisfather, the brand was: HV He died on August 25, 1988 at the Marlinda Convalescent Hospital, St.Helens, California. Carl, a former rancher and cattleman, spent most of his life in the BearLodge country of northwestern Wyoming. In 1917, at age 11, his family moved to the ranch where he spent most ofhis life. He never married but cared for his parents as long as theylived and ran the ranch. Carl enjoyed hunting seasons every year when hunters from many differentstates came to hunt and enjoy his company. He was a kind and generousman, but stern when called for. He was always ready to help others. Five years ago after he retired, he went to California to live with hissister. He loved to show his artifacts and souvenirs to folks who came tovisit them. He is survived by many old friends and relations in the Wyoming area andnew friends in California. He is survived by his sister, Agnes Quick, St. Helens, CA; a nephew,Melvin and wife Martha Quick and their sons, St. Helens; two nieces,Alice O'Rourke and husband Kenneth and their five sons; and Lois Garlockand husband Bill, Flagstaff, AZ and family. Also numerous great niecesand nephews and great great nieces and nephews. Carl was a member of the Calistoga Seventh Day Adventist Church sincemoving to California. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hilda and Alfred Nilson, asister Francis Ruland, a brother Oscar Nilson and two nephews, E. DaleRuland and Rex Nilson. Funeral arrangements were made by Morrison's Funeral Chapel with graveside services in St. Helens Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of choice.
