- Fred Bothwell and his brother, John Bothwell came from Lead, South Dakotaabout 1907 and filed on homesteads three miles southwest of Alva,Wyoming. They operated a mercantile store in Lead before coming toWyoming. Fred married Anna Nilson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nels Nilson of Eothen,Wyoming in 1911. They had, Emma Mildred, Charles 'Chuck' Dorwood andRoberta. Following Fred’s marriage, he and John operated a grocery store inHulett, Wyoming called the New Store. They also built a store in Alva,which was operated by Aubray Slaybaugh in 1916. Later John sold patentmedicines. The family lived in Alva and the boys attended the Alva school. Fred’s family moved to Omak, Washington and John’s to Lead, South Dakota.
