Bert was an accomplished writer, having published books entitled Good Sainte Anne and Tales from the Brambles. He also contributed several times to the Island magazine Red. He was a graduate of the University of Prince Edward Island, where he was awarded a degree in teaching. He developed a teaching career in Thompson, Manitoba, and subsequently moved to Québec to teach in a private school in Montréal. Later he taught at CEGEP Limoilou in Québec City, where he taught until his retirement in 2016. During his retirement he developed an interest in genealogy, resulting in a composition of his Ready ancestry on Prince Edward Island.2
