| Note | John and Margaret lived in 1971 at 1210 20 Street N.W. Calgary, Alberta. Margaret is a graduate of the University of Alberta. B.Sc. in pharmacy, and worked five years with McDermod Drug Ltd. in Calgary. Jack graduated from the University of Saskatchewan, and worked as a mining and petroleum geologist. They lived in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories for eight years, returning to Calgary in 1948. Jack was employed with Hudson Bay Oil and Gas Company for twenty-five years. In 1971 he is semi-retired. In 1973 Jack, in company with an ex-Mountie who spoke the Inuit language, made the first trip overland from Churchill, Manitoba to Arctic Bay on the northern tip of Baffin Island. They left Churchill on March 10 with an Inuit dog team escort, and after a trip full of adventure and peril, arrived at Arctic Bay on July 2, carrying mail to that region. An eastern mining syndicate had commissioned him to investigate reports of gold in that area. in 1971.1 |
