Biographical Note |
- Margaret led the Lancastrian faction in the Wars of the Roses. Henry's lack of mental stability often made him a weak king, and Margaret often ruled the kingdom in his place. It was she, who in May 1455, called for a Great Council, excluding the Yorkist faction, thus providing the impetus that began the civil conflict that lasted for over thirty years. The old nobility was decimated, and thousands of men died, during this period.
