- Sadie had a very large family and always had 'help' with her housework,which was unusual at the time. The Huestis Family settled at Bear Island in 1785 or 1786. The original house was built in 1795 or before. The next house was built in 1895 byJudson Gunter and Anthony Manuel. The farm had 240 acres on the deed and 180 after the Mactaquac dam was built in 1967. The farm was 40 rods wide. Fred was buried at Bear Island and later moved to the Mactaquac Cemetery during the construction of the Mactaquac dam.
